Monty Python star's candid financial admission

<p>Monty Python star Eric Idle has made a candid admission about the state of his finances, revealing why he still has to work at the age of 80. </p> <p>The comic legend admitted he receives only a fraction of the millions the Python team have made in the past because the finances are a “disaster”.</p> <p>In messages on X, formerly Twitter, Idle wrote: “I don’t know why people always assume we’re loaded”.</p> <p>“I have to work for my living. I never dreamed that at this age the income streams would tail off so disastrously."</p> <p>“I have been working and earning for Pythons since 1995. And now no more.”</p> <p>Idle also took aim at TV lawyer Holly Gilliam, the daughter of fellow Python member Terry Gilliam, who took over the Python brand in 2013 as part of HDG Projects Ltd. </p> <p>He said, “I guess if you put a Gilliam child in as your manager you should not be so surprised”.</p> <p>“One Gilliam is bad enough. Two can take out any company.”</p> <p>Daughter Lily Idle backed him, writing online, “I’m so proud of my dad for finally finally finally starting to share the truth.”</p> <p>The Pythons, who also included John Cleese, 84, Michael Palin, 80, and the late Terry Jones — made a fortune thanks to their iconic cult films, including <em>Life of Brian</em>, hit stage show <em>Spamalot</em>, which Idle co-wrote, and the original <em>Flying Circus</em> BBC TV series.</p> <p>They were back in the limelight in 2014 with <em>Monty Python Live (Mostly) — One Down, Five to Go</em>: a reference to former member Graham Chapman who died in 1989 aged just 48.</p> <p>It featured interpretations of some of their famous sketches, and reportedly earned the surviving members at least £2 million ($3.87m AUD) each.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images </em></p>

Meryl Streep hits the red carpet with her four children

<p>Meryl Streep has made a rare red carpet appearance with all four of her grown up children. </p> <p>The Hollywood legend was dressed in a chic black dress, exuding endless class at the annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Sunday night. </p> <p>The event serves as the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ marquee annual fundraiser, raising vital funds to support museum exhibitions, education initiatives and public programming, while also quickly become one of Hollywood’s starriest nights.</p> <p>As Meryl graced the red carpet, she was joined by her four children who she shares with estranged husband Don Gummer. </p> <p>Streep was joined by her son Henry Wolfe and his wife Tamryn Storm Hawker, her daughter Grace Gummer and her husband Mark Ronson, and her other two daughters Mamie Gummer and Louisa Jacobson. </p> <p>Her children were in attendance to celebrate their mother, who was being honoured with the Icon Award during the ceremony. </p> <p>Streep's estranged husband Don was not present at the event, as the pair announced their <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/relationships/meryl-streep-s-shocking-relationship-news" target="_blank" rel="noopener">separation</a> in October.</p> <p>“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,” the Golden Globe winner’s spokesman told <em>Page Six</em> at the time.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

"I've lost complete blood flow": Robert Irwin's near miss with python

<p>Young wildlife warrior Robert Irwin suffered a near miss during a rescue mission over the weekend, when he tried to relocate a carpet python off the road. </p> <p>The 19-year-old took to Instagram on Sunday to share a video of him almost getting bit by the wild snake. </p> <p>"Gee, that gets the heart rate up - he missed me by that much," he said when the snake struck at him. </p> <p>"He's grumpy... he's really keen on biting me... what a gorgeous snake, he's big, he's not venomous but... they're designed to constrict," he said as the python began wrapping its body around his arm to ''constrict" him. </p> <p>"He's got a good grip there, I've lost complete blood flow to my hand, it's completely blue.. and I have no feeling left in my hand," he added. </p> <p>He eventually managed to rescue the snake, and relocated it to a safe spot in the bush the day after. </p> <p>"Near miss! "Coca coila": Robert Irwin rescues a python stuck in a vending machine

<p>Robert Irwin has successfully rescued a carpet python stuck a vending machine at Australia Zoo. </p> <p>The young conservationist took to Instagram to share the moment he rescued the snake with the caption: "So this was a first for me…"</p> <p>The carpet python was visibly stuck behind a few soft drink bottles, and as the vending machine was being opened, the 19-year-old joked, "here's our chance, free Coca Cola!"</p> <p>He then got down to business, trying to coax the snake out while explaining, "what we don't want is for him to go up into the wiring.</p> <p>"We don't want to make him too upset, 'cause we want him to come out nice and smooth," he added as he pulled the snake out of the vending machine. </p> <p>The young conservationist sounded exactly like his late father, Steve Irwin, as he tried to calm down the non-venomous snake. </p> <p>"Keep coming, mate, keep coming. Hilarious moment Dr Chris Brown got punked at the Logies

<p dir="ltr">Dr Chris Brown revealed the moment he got punked by an imposter at last year’s Logies.</p> <p dir="ltr">The beloved celebrity vet told the hosts of <em>Triple M’s Mick & MG in the Morning </em>that the prank left him red-faced and wary of whether he’ll be allowed back onto the event’s red carpet this year, despite being the co-host.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I don’t think I’ll be allowed back onto the red carpet after last year’s Logies,” he said, and joked that he was shocked the incident didn’t get out into the public.</p> <p dir="ltr">Brown recalled that he had just arrived at the event and was minding his business when he started getting “strange looks” from a bunch of people.</p> <p dir="ltr">“So I’m on the red carpet and I’m getting a lot of sideways glances and not the kind you want,” he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Then about sort of half an hour into it I reckon about 20 people have given me strange looks … just looking disapprovingly in my direction.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The vet was confused as to why people were giving him strange looks until <em>Gardening Australia’s</em> Costa Georgiadis approached him.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Costa comes up with his phone and goes, ‘Hey, look, we’re mates but I thought this was a little unnecessary’,” he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Someone had changed their phone name, which you can do, to Dr Chris Brown (Bondi Vet), and was air dropping topless photos of me, shots of me emerging from the surf, paparazzi photos, air dropping them to random people on the red carpet,” Brown laughed.</p> <p dir="ltr">To the amusement of the radio hosts, Brown added: “I, to this day, have no idea how many people received a topless photo from me, apparently, on the red carpet.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Brown is set to co-host this year’s Logies red carpet alongside Sonia Kruger on July 30.</p> <p><em>Image: News.com.au</em></p>

Robert Irwin makes red carpet debut with girlfriend

<p dir="ltr">Robert Irwin looked crazy in love as he made his red carpet debut with his new girlfriend Rorie Buckley.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 19-year-old conservationist and Buckley could not keep their eyes off each other as they posed for the cameras outside Sydney’s International Convention Centre, ahead of the <em>Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning</em> premiere.</p> <p dir="ltr">The couple looked stunning in their colour-coordinated outfits, with Irwin looking dapper in a black suit as he wrapped his arms around Buckley, who is the niece of late Aussie actor Heath Ledger.</p> <p dir="ltr">Buckley, 18, charmed the crowd with her bright smile and looked chic in a black long-sleeve dress with a cutout at the midsection.</p> <p dir="ltr">In a few pictures Irwin could be seen looking proudly at his girlfriend and eliciting a few giggles as they shared private jokes together.</p> <p dir="ltr">The glamorous event also saw the <em>Mission Impossible</em> stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Hayley Atwell rock the red carpet for the franchise’s seventh instalment.</p> <p dir="ltr">This is the first time Irwin and Buckley have walked the red carpet together after first being spotted cuddling on a Queensland beach late last year.</p> <p dir="ltr">The pair are currently dating long distance with Buckley based in Perth and Irwin in Queensland.</p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

John Goodman flaunts impressive 90kg weight loss

<p>John Goodman has stepped out on the red carpet for his TV show, showing off his incredible 90kg weight loss. </p> <p>The 70-year-old Hollywood legend attended the premiere of the third season of <em>The Righteous Gemstones</em> at the 62nd Monte-Carlo TV festival, showing off the impressive results of his health and fitness overhaul.</p> <p>The actor looked pleased with his results as he walked the red carpet in a fitted suit jacket and beige trousers ahead of the festival, where he was also serving as jury president.</p> <p><img src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/2023/06/goodman-weight-embed.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="720" /></p> <p>Goodman previously explained that he realised he needed to make changes after tipping the scales at his heaviest weight of 178kg.</p> <p>The <em>Roseanne</em> star kickstarted his wellness journey in 2007, after he quit drinking and hired a personal trainer to help him reach his health goals. </p> <p>He went on to commit to a “Mediterranean-style eating plan”, which focuses on nutrient-rich whole foods and grains and has an emphasis on fresh produce and olive oil, and began exercising six days a week.</p> <p>His fitness plan includes an elliptical bicycle and treadmill and a daily step count of 10,000-12,000 steps.</p> <p>While on his dedicated health mission, he has been candid about the ups and downs of making a major lifestyle overhaul.</p> <p>In 2010, he told <em>People</em> magazine, “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a**e and figure out what you’re going to eat next.” </p> <p>“I wanted to live life better.”</p> <p>“I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself. My children laugh at me when I try to have a conversation with them in Spanish,” he admitted.</p> <p>“Sh*t, f**k, what happened? … I know that, that’s what my wife yells at me. The more she gets angry, the more she speaks Spanish.”</p> <p>Speaking to <em>Today</em> in 2017, Pataky said she had pretty much given up on teaching Hemsworth her native language, focusing on teaching their children instead.</p> <p>“He promised me, he said, ‘I’ll be speaking Spanish in two months.’ There we go, we have been together for six years,” Pataky – who speaks five languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French and Romanian - told <em>Today</em>.</p> <p>“That’s important, that’s what my mum did to me, talked in Romanian. "Indescribable loss": Sir Michael Palin shares tragic news

<p>Sir Michael Palin has revealed that his beloved wife, Helen Gibbins, has died.</p> <p>Palin made the devastating announcement on his own website, with an update titled ‘Helen’. </p> <p>“My dearest wife Helen died peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday morning,” he wrote. “She had been suffering with chronic pain for several years, which was compounded a few years ago by a diagnosis of kidney failure.</p> <p>“We first met on a summer holiday on the Suffolk coast when we were both sixteen and we married in our early twenties. Two and a half weeks ago we celebrated our 57th wedding anniversary.</p> <p>“Her death is an indescribable loss for myself, our three children and four grandchildren.</p> <p>“Helen was the bedrock of my life. Her quietly wise judgement informed all my decisions and her humour and practical good sense was at the heart of our life together.</p> <p>“The family ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”</p> <p>Just one year prior, Palin had also revealed that the then-79-year-old Helen had moved into respite care, with <em>The Guardian</em> reporting it was due to her body not responding to pain medications.</p> <p>As he told <em>The Telegraph</em> at the time, “I don’t think you can cure it, but they will help her manage it.</p> <p>“It’s such a bore. She was so active and still is, mentally. But we’re both getting on a bit. The body is declining. She’s going to be 80 in October, I’m going to be 80 at the beginning of next year. </p> <p>“We live life with our fingers crossed.”</p> <p>The 79-year-old comedian had enjoyed over a half-century of marriage with his “dearest wife”, after the two first crossed paths at the tender age of 16, with the pair even celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary mere weeks before her passing.</p> <p>Gibbins - who spent her days working as both a teacher and a bereavement counsellor - shared three children with Palin - 54-year-old Thomas, 52-year-old William, and 48-year-old Rachel. </p> <p>In his 2015 interview with <em>The Telegraph</em>, the actor opened up about his experience meeting Gibbins on a holiday in Southwold, naming her “a vision of rebellion”, and how they kept in touch after going home.</p> <p>Unfortunately, the pair lost touch again for the next two years, until they ran into each other once again through mutual friends at Oxford University. </p> <p>As Palin himself said of the less-than-ideal start to their lengthy relationship, “you can see fate was actually tightening the screws on us very hard at that time.”</p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

Stars lead the Met Gala carpet in stunning black and white

<p dir="ltr">Often dubbed the “Super Bowl of fashion”, the annual Met Gala has once again showcased the best that high fashion has to offer. </p> <p dir="ltr">The Met Gala serves as the annual fundraiser for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, and gives the whos-who of Hollywood the chance to experiment with their wildest fashion choices. </p> <p dir="ltr">This year, the annual affair celebrated the exhibition “<a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/karl-lagerfeld-a-line-of-beauty-will-be-the-metropolitan-museum-of-arts-spring-2023-costume-institute-exhibition" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty</a>,” which honours the legacy of the late designer who died in February 2019. </p> <p dir="ltr">Lagerfeld helmed fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, and his own eponymous line, and raised funds for The Met’s Costume Institute while having an immeasurable impact on the fashion industry. </p> <p dir="ltr">As a result of this year’s theme, the stars largely turned out in various designs of black and white, which was a class colour combination that became Lagerfeld’s signature. </p> <p dir="ltr">Some looks on the star-studded carpet included Lagerfeld’s staples such as Chanel tweed, pearl embellishments, seemingly conflicting texture and endless, endless tulle. </p> <p dir="ltr">Celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Glenn Close, Hugh Jackman, Pedro Pascal, Naomi Campbell, Jessica Chastain, Salma Hayek, and many many more graced the carpet, posing up a storm and showing off their intricately designed looks. </p> <p dir="ltr">One of the more unusual looks on the carpet came from actor and musician Jared Leto, who ran with his own unique interpretation of the theme and arrived dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette, which translates to “sweetie” in French. </p> <p dir="ltr">While many of the celebrities in attendance interpreted the theme in their own ways, there is no doubt that the Hollywood A-listers who were lucky enough to be invited know how to make an entrance. </p> <p dir="ltr"><em>All image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

Kate and Wills lead star-studded BAFTA red carpet

<p>Prince William and Kate Middleton have lead the star-studded red carpet at the annual BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards. </p> <p>Stepping out in style at London's Royal Albert Hall, the royal couple began the precession of the who's who of Britain's entertainment industry. </p> <p>Prince William, who has served as the president of BAFTA since 2010, donned a sleek black, crushed velvet suit, while Kate paired a one-shoulder white Alexander McQueen gown with black opera gloves. </p> <p>They were joined on the carpet by stars of the big and small screens, such as Cate Blanchett, Emma Thompson, Julianne Moore, Michelle Yeoh, Catherine Zeta-Jones and many more. </p> <p>Inside the awards, Aussie actress Cate Blanchett took home the Best Actress award for her role in the film <em>Tár</em>, fuelling speculation the role will also land her an Oscar win later this year.</p> <p>Meanwhile Austin Butler beat out both Colin Farrell and Brendan Fraser to win Best Leading Actor for his portrayal of Elvis. </p> <p>The coveted Best Film award went to <em>All Quiet on the Western Front</em>, while <em>The Banshees of Inisherin </em>won the award for Outstanding British Film. </p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

Russell Crowe makes red carpet debut with new girlfriend

<p>Russell Crowe has made his red carpet debut with his much younger new girlfriend, as the pair attended the premiere for Crowe's new film.</p> <p>The 58-year-old actor made an appearance at the premiere screening for <em>Poker Face</em> in Italy, as he stopped and posed for photos with his new partner, 31-year-old Britney Theriot.</p> <p>According to reports from <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/10/17/russell-crowe-makes-red-carpet-debut-with-britney-theriot/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a>, the pair shied away from any serious public displays of affection, instead wrapping their arms around each other and smiling to each other lovingly.</p> <p>This is the first time the couple have been seen in public together since rumours of their relationship began as Theriot, also an actress, is notoriously private about her personal life.</p> <p>Russell and Britney first sparked romance rumours in November 2020 when they were spotted kissing during a heated round of tennis.</p> <p>The rumour mill began again in February 2021, as they seemed to be going strong when they were seen playing tennis together again in Australia.</p> <p>Crowe was previously married to Danielle Spencer, with whom he has two sons: Charles, 18, and Tennyson, 16.</p> <p>He and Spencer, also an actress, married in 2003 but separated in 2012.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

Poor Nat Barr's massive red carpet fail

<p dir="ltr">Natalie Barr was left embarrassed and flustered on the Oscars red carpet as she failed to wave down celebrities with a packet of Tim Tams. </p> <p dir="ltr">This is the first time the <em>Sunrise</em> co-host covered the Oscars and was left a rambling mess with many viewers unsure she was the right person for the job. </p> <p dir="ltr">Holding a packet of Tim Tams in an attempt to lure celebrities, Barr was embarrassingly unsuccessful given the fact that other experienced reporters were nearby. </p> <p dir="ltr">“We’ve got ET one side and Access Hollywood on the other side,” she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“These guys know what they’re doing … I’m basically just stealing all the people who stop for them. </p> <p dir="ltr">“I just sort of butt-in. It’s an Australian delicacy,” Barr asked as she turned around, only to find Venus had already walked off and was being interviewed by ET.</p> <p dir="ltr">Barr hovered nearby listening to the interview before asking the studio if it was “rude to put my mic in”.</p> <p dir="ltr">The interview finished and Barr tried one more time to call Venus over before she was shut down by Kylie who said they’d go back to her when she had someone else. </p> <p dir="ltr">Viewers were left stunned and criticised Barr’s coverage, saying someone with more experience should have been at the Oscars.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Oh dear God. What a mess.Laughing stock,” someone wrote.</p> <p dir="ltr">“So embarrassing, Nat is so out of her league,” another commented.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Dickie or Angela Bishop would've had a better chance in getting Serena or Venus,” someone suggested. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Embarrassing for Australian TV,” another wrote.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: The Morning Show</em></p>

All the glitz and glamour from the 2022 Oscars

<p>At Hollywood's night of nights, the who's who of show business gathered at LA's Dolby theatre to celebrate the best in cinema. </p> <p>The big winner of the night was <em>CODA</em>, with the film representing a deaf family taking home Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Troy Kotsur taking home Best Supporting Actor. </p> <p>Best Lead Actor went to Will Smith for his performance in <em>King Richard</em>, which was awarded after he <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/the-slap-heard-around-the-world" target="_blank" rel="noopener">confronted presenter Chris Rock</a> on stage. </p> <p>Jessica Chastain was awarded Best Lead Actress for her incredible depiction of an icon in <em>The Eyes of Tammy Faye</em>, while Billie Eilish and Finneas won Best Song for their James Bond anthem in <em>No Time to Die</em>. </p> <p>New Zealander Jane Campion took out Best Director for her slow-burn drama <em>The Power of the Dog</em>, while sci-fi epic <em>Dune</em> won Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects and Best Cinematography. </p> <p>On the red carpet, the stars were all about making bold statements with sequins, lace, and huge pops of bold colour. </p> <p>Check out the best dressed of the 2022 Academy Awards below. </p> <p><em>All image credits: Getty Images</em></p>
